Christ in you, the hope of glory
For reasons that I'll never understand, Jesus has chosen our hearts as His dwelling
place. It is clear from scripture that we are the temple made without hands
- His dwelling place. And that His desire is to fill us with the fullness of
His Love, His Joy, and His Peace. How could we ever thank him for that? It is
enough that we fall on our faces and worship Him. Occasionally He my bless you
by filling His temple with His Glory.
A word about style:
Teachers tell me there are two kinds of students. Neat notebook students,
and Messy notebook students. Neat notebook students keep meticulous notes
and outlines. Their notebooks are organized. Nothing is out of place. And
messy notebook students are just the opposite. Neither style seems to affect
their grades (but messy notebook students can find things faster!). The same
teachers tell me that forcing a messy person to be neat gets them all confused,
and they cannot function as well. Keep in mind that I am a messy notebook
person. Highly unstructured. And I think it affects my prayer style. In Myers-Briggs
terms I'm a strong P. (I'm an INFP by the way).
Here's the point. I think
Fr_Paul is a neat notebook person, and he recommends you chart your 'in-the-presence'
every day on a scale from 1 to 10. If I did that, it would get me all disoriented.
So if charting your in-the-presence helps you, by all means do it!
The same structured/unstructured style affects how you practice the presence.
Structured people recommend a schedule (20 minutes twice a day). Unstructured
people (like me) get in the presence as opportunity permits. Today I found myself
drinking a cup of coffee on a park bench in the sun with no-one else around,
waiting for a group to finish something. Guess what I did. Get into the presence
and seek His Love in my heart. I know with certainty that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things
under the earth. How the Lord gets you there is between you and Him. So whatever
your style.. If you thrive on schedules? Do it.
Here's the good news, no matter
what your style. If you are drawn by His Love, you will reach the point where
you are in His presence all the time. But be patient! It may take a lifetime.
Disengage your rational mind.
Get into the mind of your heart.
Locate His presence.
Rest in His Love.
If any thoughts distract you, look over their shoulder and relocate His presence.
Colossians 1:26-27 the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations,
but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what
is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ
in you, the hope of glory.
Acts 17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord
of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.
1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
Ezekiel 44:4 Then brought he me the way of the north gate before the house:
and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD:
and I fell upon my face.
Psalm 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that
I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the
beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
